Dorian Gray
I can't believe I've never written anything in this section, it's my favorite subject!
Anyway, thought i'd write a quick review of Dorian Gray.
To start with, anyone who knows me could probably imagine what i was like going in to see this. I generally hate adaptations, especially of books i really love.
At best they're usually disappointing, and at worst they make me want to track down the director and devise some form of painful torture they have to endure while i read to them from the book they claimed to know well enough to have made a film of.
But, i followed the advice of a friend, (which she assured me was for my own good, lest i suffer a nervous breakdown brought on by movie-goer related stress), and went in expecting not to see a page-for-page film version of The Picture of Dorian Gray, but Dorian Gray a movie in it's own right.
I'm glad i took her advice. The film is VERY different to the book but i enjoyed it anyway. It got rid of a lot of the 'wordy bits' (which as entertaining as they are in the book might have been a bit boring on film) and added a bit more drama and some very pleasing-to-the-eye visual representations of pleasure and "sin" (themes they obviously focused a lot on!). There were lots of beautiful people in beautiful costumes doing things that certainly looked like a lot of fun!
And the general themes and ideas are still there. Pleasure over responsibility, vanity, the importance of morals to the state of your soul etc... It had all that AND Dorian whoring himself around London- what's not to like!
Colin Firth was great to watch (as always) and the guy who played Dorian was certainly beautiful enough for the role; i don't think i've ever seen such a pretty man!
The only downside was seeing the film with a thirty year old man who GIGGLED when Dorian kissed a guy... Wow, immaturity and mild homophobia are such a turn on... *sense the sarcasm!

Re: Dorian Gray
glad to hear you enjoyed the movie. I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet, but then i never got around tot he book either. LOL
I might try and see it when its out on dvd. It certainly looks good from the trailer.
Shame about the less than mature individual you went with. I hope you gave him the worst glare you possibly could!

mmmmmm, maybe i should see the movie.
