Meditation...what do you do?

Post by Pythia on Tue Oct 06, 2009 9:24 am

Hi all. I've sat here the past half hour attempting to meditate through a bad cold but im hitting a wall.
Stuffy nose, sore eyes and throat, im finding ti hard to concentrate.
So it occurred to me there are so many different methods and techniques out there to reach a meditative state.
What do you personally do to meditate?
Do you listen to music, block out all sound, concentrate on your breathing? Do you sit still or take part in an active moving meditation?

By sharing our methods we can help each other find new and possibly more successful techniques.

Blessings

Normally when i meditate i let myself drift and find myself walking through a wood or hovering near a cloud. To get to this state i concentrate on my breathing, keeping it even and steady letting other sounds fall away into the background. Sometimes i use gentle music to help me drift off.
Obviously today that isn't working.

I may try looking into a crystal or candle flame but this isnt normally a relaxing meditation for me as i tend to use these techniques to scry.

Any suggestions anyone can think of?

burn some eucalyptus (sp) oil in burner to help ya breathe....might help.

For me personally i tend to listen to sounds music, like storm effects etc....sometimes i manage to drift without the music but then i more likely to fall asleep

anything real soothin i find perfect for a meditation and then i just let myself drift until i am sat by a tree watchin the world go by....whatever else i am going to do during that meditation goes from that point

Thanks for the advice sweetie
I've actually purchased a book today which apparently gives you an overview of the different methods, it even comes with a cd. Its amazing what you can find in charity shops these days LOL

I think one of the problems i have at the moment is trying to find a comfortable position as since beginning my physio recently for my legs, im finding it increasingly difficult to find a position that doesn't pull or otherwise feel uncomfortable.
More than likely something you yourself have trouble with Tia?

As i read more about the different techniques i think it would be a good idea if we put tips and helpful comments about what we find works well during meditation. You never know we may even get quite an accumulation of helpful tips on here.

TIP:
Trying to clear your mind of all thoughts doesn't work when you are starting out as you tend to get distracted easily and lose your temper more than you manage calm reflection. Instead think of one thing that you can focus your attention on within your mind.
A symbol, box or unique object which you can focus your attention on. Your body will follow suit and you should come out of it feeling relaxed and refreshed.
