Babylonian GoddessTiamat

Post by Tiamat on Wed Jul 29, 2009 8:23 pm

Shockingly enough i am now asking for information ont his Goddess.

What do i know about Tiamat:

Babylonian Goddess and considered the mother of all until her consort was killed, she turned rather nasty at this point and was eventually slain by her own son (one of ummmm countless children she had)

Information is very scarce about this particular Goddess so any added info or even linkies will help a great deal Smile

I've never really known anything about Babylonian mythology, (it always looked a bit complicated, SO many characters!) but after looking around for info on Tiamat i think I'd quite like to learn a bit more, there's some very good stories in there!

I couldn't find much on her really. Wikipedia calls her '...the monstrous embodiment of primordial chaos.' Descriptions don't come much more formidable than that!

But chaos breeds creation, and apparently heaven and earth were made from the remains of her body and her tears became the source of 2 of the earths greatest rivers. (i particularly like that bit of the story- it's sad but a nice touch!)

If you're interested in Babylonian mythology in general i found this online version of their Creation Myth. in which Tiamat plays er...rather a large role!

Hope any of that helps!
